Tulips Festival @ Tesselaar Farm

I recently went to see the tulips at a tulip festival held by Tesselaar (farm) with Gaibe and boy, are they beautiful! There were rows and rows of them and as your eyes sweeps across the panoramic field the colours of spring's blossoming just makes you feel so good. I wish I had a lawn like this! I guess it is everyone's dream to have a lawn/garden like this but mind you, the effort that was put into maintain this garden will be humongous so I guess I will just leave it to the experts, or my future gardener instead. ;P

Apart from the massive lawns of tulips, they also have an awesome garden which they have decorate each week with different themes and that week's theme is Irish! Ahoy, me Scottish brothers! Embrace the kilt and blow your bagpipes, it's time for another celebration!

It feels good escaping into nature once in a while; the city has too much coldness - tall buildings, lifeless gardens due to winter's shedding and there is just too much going on at the same moment. Arriving at the tulip farm is really an relaxing experience as you watching the clouds changes (rain is coming) and sunlight peaking through; you feel so alive and well. Gone were the grey concrete buildings and bustling and hustling of the city noise, you can just enjoy the scenery in front of you.

There are quite a lot of people who was already there when we got there, in fact we are so amazed that there are so many people on the special bus that took us to the farm when we hopped on it. I guess they love Mother Nature too... or the tulips as well.

From afar, I thought these tulips are black O.o They are called "Queen of the Night" . In actual, they actually look like flowers from our bawang merah, only in deep purple.

If you noticed, yes... the mud sticking on our shoes is really tiring. It's like each new steps takes extra more effort to lift up our feet.

Instead of the yellow brick road like in Ozland, we have a muddy gravel road to the garden. No, I am not complaining.

Dutch pancakes, are like super tiny sized pancakes and here they sell in for $6.50. It's delicious [we ordered a butter, maple topping with icing sugar serve) but the serving is too little (around 10 perhaps) I didn't took a photo of the pancakes, sowwweee... [Menu's on the side of the stall if your eyesight are good enough to spot them]

After a tiring walk around the place, we finally settled down and got some late lunch, well for me that is. Gaibe went ahead and bought herself some German sausages during our walk in the gardens (there are quite a few more stalls selling foods, souvenirs and desserts in there, there is even a tent where performers are performing and you can just sit in there and enjoy the music and their show) but I settled with my scrumptious $10 fire baked pizza! Yay... I ordered Hawaiian, not bad :]

While eating, we spotted a booth in the field selling pots of tulips and I was so sorry for myself because I bought that bouquet of tulips [on the table] while inside of the garden for $12 when those pots only costs $10 for 2. AHHHHHHHHHHHHH!! I knew I shouldn't have bought them!

But never mind, we bought two pots of tulips in the end and the bus came just in time to bring us back to the train station ;)

My recent haven for book purchases as Melbourne saw the shutting down of major bookstore vendors like Borders leads me to be aimless wandering for good books. Marked down prices of good books with excellent condition.

They have a website as well as a Facebook page too. How convenient.

I got $100 worth of books for free as I used the book voucher that my school awarded me for the AMI Eagle Award for last September. May is very happy as she got free books ^^ all 8 of them ;]

A Nasi Lemak 2.0 Review [REEDITED]

[Reedited because I realised that I've done a crappy job with the previous posting, tons of mistakes in grammar and sentence structure as well as incoherency and I didn't review the movie in a more thorough method because I was so tired at that time (wrote starting at 2am in the morning what do you expect...). So, give me another chance at this, PLEASE!]

Nasi Lemak 2.0

Supposingly, Namewee's debut film Nasi Lemak 2.0 is officially premiering on the 8th of September on the silver screens of Malaysia so it is definitely a nice surprise for Malaysians in Melbourne that he decided to bring the casts and film to premiere in Melbourne on the 31st August in occurence of the celebration of our country's National Day. The movie is only screened once for the special occasion. I got a chance to secure the movie ticket through Facebook which costed me $20 (approx. RM65 at that time) while my elder sister bought the clubbing session (held on Merdeka Day Eve) + movie ticket (VVIP) $65 (WAHHHH... So banyak moolah!)

We arrived at HOYTS at around 8:20pm and was ushered into the theatre but the movie screening started at 9pm with the late entrance of the casts as according to the emcee, they're following Malaysian time (WTF). A bit pissed off at that time as I was cranky with my usual migraine messing around with constant throbbing on my left eyebrow's bone. Another thing that I think pisses most of us off is that fact that most of the middle seats (around about 15 X 15 rows) are reserved for the VVIP ticket holders (which wasn't even SOLD OUT). If we hadn't went in the theatre early, we could have just got the side seaters, but as the saying goes "the early birds gets their worms" - we got our centre seats (mind you, only got 3 rows of centre seats open for the non-clubbing audience).

Back to the movie, the story line is actually quite a typical one. A young chef goes on a quest to search for the ultimate cooking technique to cook the best Nasi Lemak so that he could help a random girl to win back her father's restaurant which was poached by her aunt using foul techniques (hint: sex tape). Albeit the story line being typical, the best thing is that the director manage to capture all the issues (controversial or not) and portray it into a setting where it's not offensive and quite humorous to watch, e.g. blackouts, the race of Hang Tuah (Why didn't you use sunblock!), ministers' sex tapes and responses (that man may look like me, sound like me and even act like me - but you cannot 100% sure that THAT MAN IS ME!), unfavourable English education (hence the emphasis on the wrong subtitles showing whenever a certain person comes out to speak in English), scholarships issues... etc.

The most memorable scene to me: there are quite a lot of funny quotes/moments/parodies that made the way into my mind. Most memorable ones is probably Hang Tuah's part and the search for the best curry expedition part. I can't disclose too much as I don't want to spoil the movie for you.

In the past (and even still, at present) Namewee has been condemned by many who criticised his works as being rude and inconsiderate (even heretical) as most of them contains vulgar language and filled with rude antics but meeting him in person in the after-screening session of meet & greet, he seems like quite a shy chap to me. He didn't speak much during the meet and greet session but him and the other casts are all very kind to sign each and every one who came up to them and are willingly to snap tons of photos for us too. There was one instance where he let a guy sits on his lap to take a self-cam (selca) photo of themselves which brought many laughter to the theatre at the end of the night. Kak Adibah Noor is so sporty and witty that everyone in the building adores her. Dennis Lau/ Lan Qiao (he is really a violinist OMG! So cool~! ;] ) was giving "~muak muak~" to all the girls and even GUYS in the building (damn funny if you have seen the movie) and even with HOYTS rushing the crews to finish up early so that they can close (Melbourne shops closes at 5pm so what time do you expect of the cinema to be operating until...?) but the Nasi Lemak 2.0 crews made sure that they have signed and entertained each and every one that came to see them that night up till the last fella. I am feeling the MALAYSIAN LOVE here!

During the premiere, we were told that the movie was produced in a low-budget circumstance where the only camera equipment they used is a Canon 5D Mark II. The quality of the movie was not compromised by the lack of funding as what we see from the silver screen what actually on par with other movies that have used much more advanced equipments.

Nasi Lemak 2.0 visit to Melbourne actually made me quite miss Malaysia more as I took a trip down to Brighton Beach the next day with some friends and although I was looking at beautiful seaside villas, treated lawns area for visitors to sit, colourful summer beach sheds laying on the beach... in my mind, nothing is comparable to our Tunku Abdul Rahman island parks, our resorts, sea sports, beautiful white fine sandy beaches up till the scorching hot sun (I honestly never complained about the hot hot weather in Kota Kinabalu anymore ever since I got back from the cold cold Melbourne seasons. I guess I was spoiled by my own hometown.

Anyway. I enjoyed the movie. Filled with only Malaysian known issues and jokes, it makes you felt as if you are watching it back at home. I was smiling at the end of the movie even though I started watching the movie with a headache and a frustrated mind as I waited for almost 45 minutes for the screening to start (I went in the theatre early, not that I am complaining... I got a good seat).

You guys back at home! Make sure you watch it! Enjoy your privilege of being able to watch the movie for just RM7 when we Malaysians at Melbourne paid almost RM65 just to watch it. Catch it before it goes off the screening table or before the government bans it! Until then, WALAO-EH!

The book version of "The Cove", this fictitious story narrates the story from several people's and one whale's point of view. Overall, the book was easy to read but I do find it a bit tad boring as the choice of words didn't really portray that thriller-suspense feeling to me. It's still a good book to read though, especially if you're an avid environmentalist or keen to know some of the issues that animals or aquatic lives are going through this world today.

Shrine of Remembrance @ 09/05/2011 (Lest We Forget)

Long overdue post. Just wanna post some photos of me visiting Melbourne's Shrine of Remembrance dedicated to the unsung heroes of WWII. Many doesn't know that Kota Kinabalu has a Shrine of Remembrance similar to Melbourne's at Ranau, I just found out that the Memorial War Shrine in Ranau was dedicated to the same lost souls that once trekked the Borneo Island on its death march trail.

I haven't visited the Ranau's War Memorial site before but looking at the photos, it's quite a serene and picturesque place perched on top of Mount Kinabalu.

Today's mission: Bring my friend to visit the Shrine of Remembrance after having breakfast!

I'm bad tour guide, woke up late and left my tourist client to wander in the city for almost an hour... haihhhh

Melbourne Docklands Winter Firework Show @ 29/07/2011

Melbourne Docklands is really a nice community to stay in if you are really a resident here. In the winter seasons, the Docklands community arranges firework shows which falls at the month of July annually (this year's July we have 5 weeks so we get 5 different shows of fireworks each week! Hurray!), each week's performance different than each other to provide entertainment and some community-get-together time.

Since last year, I have always stayed at my apartment while watching the fireworks go off but the view isn't the best as the apartments buildings in front of mine blocks most of the fireworks unless they burst off at a really high altitude. This year, after contemplating with much excuses, I finally went for the last show of this year's winter firework.

The temperature dropped so low that I was chattering even before I reached the boat docking area where the event was held. The crowd was thin but they give responses whenever the fire juggling acrobats asked them questions or seek chants and applause...

My Sony T2 is getting old. This is the only nice shot that I got on my camera ;(

Couldn't take nice clear photos due to the dark environment and a lousy 3 years old Sony consumer-gig camera and a mobile phone with a LED flash. So, I decided to play with the night mode then. Longer shutter speed? I don't know, I just know that I get these nice light streaks ;P

On a sidenote, I found out a live ver. of the previous posted music video of Fatdoo and 1sagain (read as once-again) 'Hospital for the broken-hearted' and I absolutely loved it!!!

I think Fatdoo realises the importance of appealing to his international fans and I must say the main thing that attracted me most to Fatdoo's music is the availability of English subs in his videos. It's so considerate of him to translate his own lyrics for his English speaking fans ;)))

The third music video I am gonna share is by Miss A's Good Bye Baby! When I first listened and watched the teasers, I know a hit song is coming on its way and indeed, Miss A and composer JYP didn't disappoint me.

Posted only for 2 days and this video got 1.5 million hits on Youtube, right now it's about 3 million and still growing...

My flight to Melbourne is at 7:30pm tonight but I haven't even start packing and all. Sigh, I guess I am just home sick too much. It won't be at least 1 year time before I can return again, that is if my PR application is accepted by that time. Having second thoughts, maybe having a mundane but safe road isn't that bad after all?

Went to GSC Suria Kota Kinabalu to watch Jim Carrey's latest comedy movie tonight.

A movie which I would definitely bring my younger siblings to watch!

My friend picked me up around 30 minutes prior to the movie's showtime and we arrived at the cinema just in time to stand in the line for some popcorns and drinks.

We waited for a good fifteen minutes in the queue where the line is going slow but steady and we still have 5 minutes to spare before the movie starts. Second in line to be served, some lady decided that she is all Miss Smart by cutting the queue which is quite obvious to be seen and stole the chance of the person to be served next in line which is in front of me. The couple in front of me looked quite bewildered as the lady just walked ahead of them and starts ordering with her kid but the guy decided to let her pass because she has a kid with her. I was furious! How could a mother set such bad example to her kid especially when he is still in the age of learning what he sees and heard from his parents. If that wasn't enough, then came another of her friend and starts ordering with her. The people in the queue starts eyeing the two ladies but the former just pretended that nothing ever happened! Then, when it came to paying time, the lady decided that she is being smart by paid the bill of $8.55 with her credit card, not that it is wrong... just that she kept on picking on her popcorns and giving a lazy eye to us while the guy serving her is obviously having trouble with the card system that day. When she finally take out her $10 bill to pay due to her husband scolding her for being so slow and stupid, US behind the line, who have manners and etiquettes lost 10 minutes of our movie's introduction, thanks to a specific mum who has no manners!

Hello people! My examinations are finally over and I have to say I didn't performed as well as I expected. Well, there is no use crying over spilled milk so let's just place everything into God's mighty hands (as well as my papers markers' hands) and hope that I can get some passing results. It's my last trimester for my Commerce degree (majoring in Accounting) and I have some plan for my future... Hopefully it won't get lost somewhere.

Right now, it's my holiday! Yipeeeee! How else more to celebrate a mid-term break by going back to your country home! Hence, my ticket were bought yesterday and I shall be flying back to Kota Kinabalu via a 12-hour transit in Brunei! Eh - any suggestions of what to do while I am in Brunei? I really need some suggestions. Arriving @ 6am and flying only @5:20pm...

But before you enjoy your gain, you will have to go through some pains first. Right now, I have a list of things that I need to complete in just 2 days! My head is now spinning and running even more efficiently than I have it during examination time. Well, gotta run off now. Gotta pack my luggage, clean the apartment, buy some honey-coated Macadamia nuts, call Virgin Mobile, arrange transport to go to the airport!!

A little history about the group (taken from Soompi) :

Urban Zakapa is an indie-jazz group consisting of nine members; four vocalists and five instrumentalists. Of the four vocalists, there is one female vocal and three male vocals. The female vocal, Jo Hyun Ah has been featured alongside various artists such as J'Kyun, RIMI, XEPY, Verbal Jint, Cloud Dancer, Steady B, and Overclass. Urban Zakapa is one of those bands that can't to be missed out on as they leave a lasting impression on the audience with their musical endeavors.
Though the four vocalists carry distinctive qualities within their singing style, all are well suited for the jazz and R&B fusion Urban Zakapa embraces. Although the recorded songs themselves provide a great musical experience, Urban Zakapa’s live performances should also be greatly appreciated. Been loving Korean indie music ever since I discovered Clazziquai, some of these groups are so good yet so underrated compared to all the idols shows that you feel so happy when you discover their music you just wanna hide them from the world and enjoy the music all by yourself. But, I am a kind person so...(haha, sorry for being so not humble) I am gonna be a nice person and share my goodies with you.

The "Caramel Macchiato" (Title:"Cafe Latte") song is my favourite, I don't know why but it reminds me of my favourite drink @ Starbucks.

“Café Latte”, which was initially released as a single, is a song you'd put on repeat. The addicting melody pitted against the acoustic guitar and piano creates a gentle and warm feeling. The opening vocalist, Choi Jae Man, has a sweet voice, backed with a thick and addictive quality. Kwon Soon Il, on the other hand, has a lighter and more delicate voice. The third verse features Park Young In’s husky vocals, which refreshingly provides a break from the smooth harmonies of the chorus. The chorus is set apart from the rest of the song with relaxing harmonies drawn from all four singers. Furthermore, Jo Hyun Ah's uniquely powerful voice provides strong support for the bridge.

This song reminds of another indie group: 1sagain & Fatdoo's Hello Doctor; another song and music video which I wanna recommend you.

I saw this YT teaser clip back in 2010 and I have been dying to watch the movie. I was so disappointed when I got back to Malaysia 'cause I kept on asking people if they know about this movie and no one does. So sad, it's such a great action movie with a good storyline. I was angry wondering why that Malaysia cinemas doesn't show it until I stumbled across this YT movie cut and got the answer.

Just when I thought I don't have the luck with this movie... surprise surprise, I finally got to watch it on the plane from Singapore bound back to Melbourne with Singapore Airlines (THANKYOUSOMUCH! IWUVYOU~) in 2011, I guess the Singaporeans are less stringent or in the terms that I preferred better, more open to movie choices unlike some country that censors at the most ridiculous parts of movies (except for sex scenes, I don't feel comfortable watching porn in cinemas as well).

My review of the movie at the end of it, in short - is simply... great. Cried so much out of it that my neighbour thought I was dumped on my flight back (just kidding).

Kim Sae Ron, the little girl who acted as the main character in The Man From Nowhere (USA and other parts of the world) or "Ahjusshi" (Korea) (which means Uncle) was amazing. She delivered her part flawlessly and I couldn't believe that she is only a 11 y.o. kid. Won Bin looked just as handsome and so manly... his character was cold-blooded and short versed due to some past incidents that have him forging a barrier with the rest of the world.

A short synopsis of the movie: A quiet man (Cha Tae-sik) who runs a pawn shop befriends a neglected but still cheery little girl (So-mi) who lives next to his shop. When So-mi's mum, a drug addict steals a drug package under the influence of her druggie boyfriend and was found out by the drug lord, she was tortured and kidnapped along with So-mi. The thugs later found out that she pawned the package to Tae-sik and went to retrieved it only to be subdued by Tae-sik (Surprise surprise LOL). Tae-sik gave up the fight however and returned the package when he found out that SM was kidnapped too. However, So-mi was not freed and the journey begins for Tae-sik as he race against time to save his only friend.

To summarise what I wanted to say after watching, this movie is trying to shine light on the dark yet true problems the society has been coping with; that we as humans try to ignore, the fact that our society is ill with drugs, abuse, murder and every type of other sins you could possibly imagine, existed. I think the part which made this movie much loved by many is that it shows the special bond of love that relationships can have (how to love and beloved by others).

Favourite line from this movie:

Thugs: Who are you to care so much about the kid?

Won Bin: (I am just her) next-door uncle.

Yup, I know. I am a fan of cool handsome assassins with a hidden warm heart.

The chemistry between Won Bin and Sae-Ron was unforgivable, I swore they were even related as in father-daughter in real life. Heck, she even has his personal phone number and sometimes doesn't return his texts (heck, who would not return Korea's NO. 1 hottie's text messages!! Only this girl do, why? Because they are related! LOL Lousy debate elaboration).

Anyway, I find the main official OST 'Dear' sung by Mad Soul Child to compliment the movie very well, it's so sad and emotionally gritty to hear... which fits the mood of the movie. It's been playing on my iPod and laptop's playlist since forever...

Ah... All these writings makes me wanna watch the movie again.

Been sleeping quite late these past weeks due to assignments... Sometimes you are alone in the middle of the night and you got nothing and no one to play with you, you turn to your webcam for some photo mania fun.

I am bored @ 5am.

Too much thinking curls your hair.

My front hair got curled when I tied it up in front to get it out of my face when I am studying. The last photo is the end result after being tied up for almost 2 days, I untied it when I was going to sleep and the curls turned out quite nice so I took a picture to serve as a memories.

A contestant from 'The Birth of a Great Star', Shayne came all the way from Canada. You wouldn't believe how much he has put in to be at the place that he is in today. Shayne hardly knows Korean when he first joined the competition. He is also partially blind; his left eye is an artificial eye but it's heartwarming to see that how far he managed to pushed through the obstacles and strive on. He was Top 3 in the competition but got eliminated yesterday but it's okay. I am sure he is going to get signed on soon :)

I've been repeating a song on my iPod for the past three days and I am still not getting sick of it. I think the replay count must be well over a hundred now.

I like the piano riff... it's really addictive. I even hear it in my sleep. LOL

I really have to give props to B2ST (read as BEAST, 2 is read as 'ee' in Korean) for growing and improving so much since their debut. They changed from their usual strong tough-guy-pleading-a-girl's-affection-in-a-macho-way image, club rocking songs to a ~~sadder~~ softer vibe but still dance-able choice. The change is probably a good choice and very much needed to differentiate their 1st full album from the crowd as the majority mainstream music in Korea sounds probably the same currently. I have to say, 'Fiction and Fact' is an album that I will definitely get. They even made an orchestra version of 'Fiction'! LOL... Excuse the Kpop fan girl here.

Best performance I seen so far came out yesterday @ Music Core.

Adulthood.

Noting on the fact that I am about to graduate from my degree of Accounting in around 2 more months (let's cross our fingers and pray for me to study hard), it finally pushed some sense and facts to into my mind that I am an adult now (in some sense).

Adulthood

The Web defines it as 'the time in your life after your physical growth has stopped and you are fully developed'; while
Wiktionary: the time of life when one is expected to take responsibility for one's own actions and well-being; and lastly,
some UK book that talks about evolution defines it as 'the mature stage of an organism in its life cycle, usually meaning that it is able to reproduce (made me LOL and fell off my seat when the Google results came out).

Out of the three definitions, I think the second one could be that one best describing my current situation.

Basically, this post is to rant about adulthood. I can't believe such a simple word can have such scaring effects on me - who knows turning into an adult can be such stressful stuff. It practically came crouching behind me silently without me noticing, loomed precariously behind me every day for the past 5 months, waiting for the rightful time to make its pounce. It turns me in my sleep every night, would not let go of me every time I wake up in the morning, stares right into my eyes while I looked in the mirror brushing my teeth. Man, adulthood is persistent. Once it bitten you, it will never let go - until you pass away!

I currently have two choices in front of me. Ah - this reminds me so much of the poem we learned at high school. See, I am being a poet now :)))

Option 1:
After graduating, go back KK and have an easy life.

Option 2:
After graduating, find a job in a professional accounting firm, get training & earn money for school fees again.

After pondering and gloating on life's hard decisions, I finally made up my mind. To console myself, the road less taken may be hard to travel on but at the end of the path, my reward will be waiting for me :)

They say you grow physically and mentally every new year - I have accepted that fact that I will not be growing physically anymore. Praise the Lord if it happens! Not ruling out any of the possibilities God's miracle can do. Notice how I always say I don't want to grow up? I think God mistook my word for that sentence literally.

It's that time of the year again where students starts burying their heads into piles of papers, books and even monitor screens... reading through piles of words and sentences, processing information, summarising them into pact concise paragraphs! Yes, it's Week 9 of university trimester which means the dead line of assignments are coming close (Week 10)!!! But how is my progress?

I have 4 assignments all due in the same week (next week).
